Benoit Badiashile: Chelsea Are Ready to Meet Expectations in the UEFA Conference League

Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile is fully aware of the expectations placed on the club as they head into their UEFA Conference League quarter-final tie against Legia Warsaw. The French defender, who has been a key player in Chelsea’s European campaign, is determined to help the Blues fulfill their ambitions of lifting the trophy.

Having started eight of the team’s ten games in the competition, including both legs of the last-16 victory against Copenhagen, Badiashile is confident in the team’s ability to win. He acknowledged the pressure on Chelsea, given the club’s storied European history, but is ready to live up to those expectations.

“Chelsea is one of the best clubs in the world, so people expect you to win it, and we’re comfortable with that,” Badiashile said. “We’ve been aware of that since the start of the tournament, and we’re ready to meet those expectations.”

Chelsea have been perfect in the competition so far, winning every match, although Badiashile admitted there were moments where the team could have performed better. However, he stressed that the results are what matter most and that the squad is fully committed to achieving their goal of winning the trophy.

“We are really pleased with our performance so far, but it’s not over yet. We still have a lot of games to go before we can win the trophy,” he added. “We’re going to give everything we’ve got to win it because it’s an important objective for us.”

Badiashile, who has previous experience in the Champions League and Europa League with Monaco, is also determined to help Chelsea return to Europe’s elite competition next season. The 24-year-old has already achieved plenty in his career but is eager to add silverware to his CV, with the Conference League representing a major opportunity.

“I’ve never been lucky enough to win a trophy, but I have played in a final, which I lost unfortunately,” Badiashile reflected, recalling Monaco’s 2021 Coupe de France defeat to PSG. “I know what it’s like to lose when you’re so close to winning the trophy, so, of course, it’s an extra motivating factor.”

With the Blues fully focused on their European mission, Badiashile is determined to help Chelsea show why they are favorites to win the Conference League, starting with their trip to Poland this Thursday.
