At first, people dismissed the stories as mere legend. But as more and more residents began to vanish, only to return with no recollection of who they were or where they'd been, the legend of The Memory Eater gained credence.
One stormy night, a young woman named Sarah encountered The Memory Eater. She was driving home from work when her car skidded off the road, becoming stuck in the mud. As she waited for help to arrive, a figure emerged from the darkness.
The Memory Eater was tall, gaunt, and impossibly thin. Its face was a void, a black hole that seemed to suck in the light around it. Sarah tried to run, but The Memory Eater reached out and touched her forehead.
As soon as its cold, bony fingers made contact, Sarah's memories began to fade. She forgot her name, her family, her friends. She forgot everything.
