__African Language Models: #ComputePower #Train #Imagine #Innovate #Launch!

At the inaugural Global Africa AI Summit last week in Rwanda, we made a few announcements, including that one of our priorities and most ambitious projects for the Mfungi Supercomputer is to train AI in nearly all of Africa’s languages.

If you understand AI, and where it is going, you will appreciate the importance of training Large Language Models (LLMs) in our own Africa languages. This is not just a political or cultural issue, but extremely important for our entrepreneurs. It will open the door to developing localized products, services, and businesses that most of you cannot even imagine today...!

Imagine "use cases" [as we call them in business] that can reach the most remote areas of the African continent in the native languages of all our peoples... You know how serious I am about this: No African must be left behind in the Fourth Industrial (AI) Revolution that's sweeping our world!

Now we're not going to do all this FOR people. After all, why should we be the ones worrying about your mother tongue or your business when there are entrepreneurs and innovators in virtually every cultural background, right?

Here's what we ARE going to do: We will provide the #Compute capacity and platform software to make it possible, because without #Compute and platforms to train these models... it’s all just talk.

My team and I are already working to set up an AI Language Laboratory where we provide tools to governments, research institutions, and businesses that wish to undertake this work.

Anyone [serious] about this will be able to approach our team and buy the necessary tools and support to do it. We will start with the most widely spoken languages across multiple countries, like Swahili. [Note that even that single language has many dialects, which we will consider].

I’m glad to announce that we now have partners to do this in several countries, including Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Nigeria, Togo, and Rwanda.

AI will not only help preserve our languages but can also turn them into powerful entrepreneurial and educational tools. It is up to us. The possibilities are endless. I'm really counting on you to see this by now.

We will begin operating The Language Lab by June as we still need to recruit and train everyone.

Keep an eye on the Cassava AI website for this and all the other cool things we are busy doing. https://www.cassava.ai/
