Bauchi Accountant General In EFCC Net Over Alleged N70bn Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Sirajo Jaja, the Accountant General of Bauchi State, for alleged N70bn fraud. Vanguard learned that Jaja was taken into custody in Abuja, along with two others: Aliyu Abubakar, an unlicensed Bureau De Change Operator, and Sunusi Sambo, a Point of Sale Operator. “They were arrested in connection with investigations of money laundering, diversion of public funds and misappropriation to the tune of N70bn. “Already, investigations showed that cash withdrawal of N59bn had been made through various bank accounts opened and operated by the Accountant General on behalf of the state government,” a top source in the commission revealed. The EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest but declined further comments on the matter. Notably, the EFCC is also probing the involvement of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed in the case. 5 5  |
