HOUSING NOTORIOUS CRIMMINALS AND OFFENDERS.

Yesterday’s afternoon , I watched a documentary about CECOT, one of the world's largest prisons, located in El Salvador.

I highly recommend checking it out on YouTube ( https://youtu.be/H42zWaD4A4s?si=M9ND4W1QEIYTHh5r ) it's eye-opening.

CECOT houses the country's gang leaders and their followers, and its conditions are heartbreaking and inhumane. Here are some shocking facts about the prison:

1. Massive and isolated: Built on 430 acres, surrounded by soldiers, and located in a remote area with no phone signal.

2. High-tech security :$100 million construction cost, CCTV cameras covering every inch, and gravel flooring to amplify footsteps.

3. *Fortress-like design: 9.8-foot-tall walls, barbed wire, and 19 guard towers.

4. Anonymous guards: Wearing balaclavas and glasses to prevent gang leaders from identifying them.

5. Invasive registration: Prisoners undergo thorough security checks, identification, and x-ray machines.

6. Harsh living conditions: One hour of outdoor time per week, but only within the cellblock's roof.

7. No outside contact: Once transferred, prisoners will never see outsiders again.

8. Military presence: Soldiers stationed above cells, monitoring every move, with access to military-grade assault rifles.

9. Meager rations: The same meal daily rice, corn, and tortillas, with no meat or chicken.

10. Escape-proof: Designed to prevent escape attempts, with no successful breaks to date.

The documentary highlighted a disturbing trend: many young boys join gangs around age 11 or 12, and by 20, they've often committed multiple murders. El Salvador's crackdown on gang violence has transformed it from one of the world's most dangerous countries to one of the safest.

While the system has been successful in reducing gang violence, concerns remain about potential innocent prisoners facing lifelong torture.
