Arsenal are exploring the possibility of signing Wolves forward Matheus Cunha before the January transfer window closes, Fabrizio Romano has revealed. The Brazilian’s future at Wolves is uncertain as he has yet to extend his contract, which expires in 2025.

Cunha’s situation has been further complicated by disciplinary issues. After Wolves' recent loss to Chelsea, manager Vitor Pereira criticized Cunha for his poor body language and frustration, which led him to walk straight to the tunnel after being substituted.

Pereira addressed the matter publicly, stating, "I understand frustration when it comes from wanting to win, but I don’t like this body language. A captain should help the team by fighting and supporting, not sulking. Next time, I will not tolerate it.”

Arsenal, facing attacking issues and the absence of Gabriel Jesus due to an ACL injury, remain keen on Cunha, who has been on their radar for some time. Romano confirmed the Gunners' interest, saying, "Arsenal remain in the mix for Cunha, and the situation is worth monitoring as clubs show interest."

Wolves value the 25-year-old forward at €70-80m, and there are concerns that Arsenal’s attention may have turned Cunha’s focus away from the team. Pereira acknowledged, “It’s human for players to be distracted when other clubs are interested—it’s part of football.”

Cunha joined Wolves permanently in 2023 following a successful loan spell from Atletico Madrid, who sold him for €50m. The forward has since scored 26 goals in 78 appearances, earning praise as one of the Premier League’s standout players.

Cunha began his career at Swiss side Sion, moving to RB Leipzig and later Hertha Berlin, where his performances earned him a €30m transfer to Atletico Madrid in 2021. However, his struggles in La Liga led to his move to Wolves just 18 months later.

Despite his club-level success, Cunha has yet to score in his 11 international caps for Brazil. With Arsenal in dire need of attacking reinforcements, a deal for Cunha could provide Mikel Arteta’s side with a proven performer as they aim to bolster their forward line. Whether the move materializes will depend on Arsenal's willingness to meet Wolves’ valuation before the transfer window shuts.
