AC Milan secured a vital 1-0 victory over Girona in their UEFA Champions League clash, with Rafael Leão’s first-half goal ensuring the Rossoneri's continued pursuit of a top-eight finish. The win came as Sérgio Conceição managed his first European fixture in charge of Milan, and the three points were crucial as they look to push for a place in the knockout stages. Girona came into the match hoping to break their winless streak in the competition, having failed to score in their previous three games. However, it was Milan who dominated early proceedings, with Tijjani Reijnders and Leão both testing Girona’s goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga within the first few minutes. Yunus Musah had a golden opportunity to put Milan ahead but misfired, sending a pass across the goal when it seemed easier to shoot. Despite their early dominance, Milan could not find the breakthrough, and it wasn’t until the 37th minute that they finally took the lead. Girona did manage to test Milan’s defense towards the end of the first half, with a close-range effort from Yangel Herrera being denied by Milan’s goalkeeper Mike Maignan. The visitors’ hopes of an equalizer in the second half were briefly raised when Bryan Gill thought he had scored, only for his curling shot to be ruled out for offside. As the match wore on, Milan struggled to match their first-half intensity but managed to comfortably hold onto their slender lead. Girona, despite their continued efforts, could not find a way through, and Milan sealed a fifth consecutive UCL victory. Rafael Leão was the standout performer, with his decisive goal and overall display earning him the well-deserved Man of the Match award.
