According to Metro, Rio Ferdinand has urged Manchester United to sign a proven goal-scorer to support their struggling forward, Rasmus Hojlund. The former United defender emphasized that the team’s lack of goal-scoring this season, compounded by Marcus Rashford’s reduced impact and Hojlund's own form, has put additional pressure on the 21-year-old. Since his £72 million move to Old Trafford in 2023, Hojlund has managed only two goals in the Premier League this season, contributing to United's offensive woes. While Hojlund’s overall career statistics of 23 goals in 71 appearances show promise, his current lack of output in England’s top flight has drawn criticism, including from Ferdinand, who voiced his concerns after United’s recent victory over Fulham. Manchester United’s offensive struggles are evident, as they rank among the five teams with the fewest goals in the Premier League this term. With only Hojlund as a natural striker, the team has faced difficulties in finding consistent scoring options. Given the high expectations that come with Hojlund's hefty price tag, some may feel disappointed with his current performance, but Ferdinand suggests that the issue lies in the lack of mentorship for the young striker. Hojlund is expected to grow into his role as a central figure for United, but without an experienced striker to guide him, his development has been stunted. Ferdinand recommended that United reignite their interest in Victor Osimhen, the prolific striker currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli. Osimhen has been in exceptional form, scoring 16 goals in 20 appearances this season. Ferdinand believes the Nigerian forward would be an ideal addition to the squad, bringing both goals and invaluable experience. With Osimhen's track record of success at the highest levels, including his previous performances in Serie A with Napoli, Ferdinand sees him as a striker who could provide immediate impact and leadership, something United desperately needs. |
