Manchester United are set up for a frenzied end to the January transfer window with multiple moving parts locked in position to fall one after another. Patrick Dorgu is the name on everyone’s lips right now at Man Utd, with talks advancing for the Lecce left-back recently. His potential arrival will fill a huge gap in the squad but it seems like United have caught up to that in another race for an extremely highly-rated player. In fact, that has developed so quickly that he might well end up being confirmed as a United player before Dorgu’s potential arrival! Photo by David Price/Arsenal FC via Getty Images Man Utd close to first January transfer Dorgu was widely expected to be United’s only summer signing and he still might be, but only if there’s a strict senior team qualifier attached. Fabrizio Romano reports that Man Utd have reached a full agreement to signing Ayden Heaven from Arsenal, giving his famed “Here we go” to the move. View Tweet United moved quickly in the race for Heaven after he was spotted watching the team in the Europa League against Rangers at Old Trafford. With the player’s scholarship contract expiring in the summer, United have moved quickly in a repeat of the Chido Obi trick to agree a “modest fee” for the defender. Heaven will join Ineos’ youth revolution at United as the new ownership regime has made a concerted effort to make United’s youth system the envy of the world with signings from outside. Ayden Heaven at Man Utd – what next? United have a clear need for left-footed centre-backs in the senior team but at 18, it is difficult to say that Heaven will go straight into the first-team picture. This is his first season in U21 football, where he’s played eight games in Premier League 2 for Arsenal U21. A similar level is expected at Old Trafford. United look to have recently promoted Chido Obi to the U21 team and Heaven will step in at the heart of that side, minutes for him freed up since Jack Kingdon moved on loan to Rochdale recently. The next pre-season looks like an exciting time for every youngster and Heaven will join that list with dreams of cracking a first-team place at the end of it. In the meantime, it’s another win for United’s youth project which has seen a booster dose to a team that’s already dominating at the U18 level. |
