The Talking Drum

In the village of Ijanla, young Timi could understand the rhythm of the talking drum. While others heard only beats, Timi heard messages—stories and secrets.

One dry season, when the river vanished and hunger loomed, Timi heard the drum whisper of a hidden spring beneath the oldest baobab. The villagers followed his lead, dug deep, and found water.

From that day, Timi was no longer seen as strange. They called him Olu-Ayan, “child of the drum,” for he had saved them by simply listening.
