Royale Union SG striker Promise David is set to switch his allegiance to the Canadian senior national team despite playing for Nigeria at youth level, Soccernet.ng reports. David has enjoyed a remarkable rise in the last two years and is becoming one of the best players in the Belgian Jupiler League. Characteristic of their great scouting, Royale Union SG signed the 23-year-old striker from Estonian club Kalju FC last July for just €400,000. And since joining them, he has impressed a lot. And David has been following in his footsteps. He has contributed seven goals and two assists in 18 top-flight appearances. However, as David has been shining at the club level, there has been a big question concerning his international career due to his dual nationality. The 23-year-old striker was born in Ontario, Canada, to Nigerian parents. He then chose to play for Nigeria in his earlier years. David played twice for the Under-23 team, but he was just a peripheral player then. After spending almost two years in the doldrums, Soccernet.ng reported that the Nigeria Football Federation wanted to convince him to play for the Super Eagles. But those talks have stalled for a while. In a new report per The Athletic, David informed the NFF of his desire to play for Canada as he believes he has a better chance to play at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and USA. Canada, on the other hand, have sealed their spot by virtue of being hosts. Moreover, only a miracle would get David into an elite Super Eagles strike force that boasts of Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface and Cyriel Dessers. Canada have a good number of players of Nigerian descent playing for them. They have Tani Oluwaseyi, Cyle Larin, and Sam Adekugbe.
