According to Metro, Owen Hargreaves has raised concerns that Manchester United might sell Alejandro Garnacho before the January transfer window closes, especially with Chelsea showing interest. Garnacho, once regarded as a rising star at Old Trafford, has seen his form dip in recent months. His omission from the Manchester derby and Ruben Amorim's criticism of his training performances highlighted the struggles the 20-year-old has faced. Despite these challenges, Garnacho has fought to reclaim his place in the team, making appearances in all of United's matches in January. He had a significant impact in the 2-0 Europa League win over Steaua Bucuresti, coming on at halftime to help secure the victory. However, despite his positive performance, it remains uncertain whether the match was his last appearance for the club. United has not ruled out selling Garnacho before the transfer window closes, with Chelsea reportedly exploring a move. Hargreaves expressed his concerns, acknowledging that United may need the funds to strengthen their squad but emphasized the importance of retaining young talent like Garnacho. He said: “They might need the money to get other players in to suit the manager’s formation. But you’d like to think you’d keep these brilliant, young players at the football club." On Garnacho’s performance against Steaua, Hargreaves added, “Garnacho made a huge difference, it was a great impact from the subs. He was brilliant when he came on.” Louis Saha, a former United player, also commented on the situation, noting that young academy players like Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo could be seen as attractive options for sale due to their status as academy products. "The one thing that I would say is that a player like Garnacho and Mainoo as well, they become attractive options to sell because from a PSR perspective, academy products are counted as pure profit," he explained. Saha also acknowledged the financial side of football, suggesting that selling such players could allow United to reinvest in the market. "This might be an unpopular opinion, but football is a business as well. These are two players that have been massively hyped up, but for me, from what I’ve seen of them, there’s no guarantee that they can go on and become the next [Ryan] Giggs or the next Paul Scholes – I haven’t seen everything from them that makes me think these two players are non-transferable." United secured a 2-0 win over Steaua Bucuresti, with Diogo Dalot and Kobbie Mainoo scoring the goals. The result ensured that United finished 3rd in their Europa League group, behind Lazio and Athletic Bilbao. Despite struggles in the Premier League, United remains unbeaten in Europe ahead of the knockout stages. https://hub.opera.com/ |
