Barcelona played out a thrilling 4-4 draw against Atlético Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. Despite scoring four goals, defensive frailties and inconsistent performances from key players cost them the chance to take an advantage into the second leg. Here are four players who underperformed for Barcelona in the match:
1. Jules Koundé
Koundé struggled defensively, failing to contain Atlético’s attacking threats. His positioning was questionable, allowing Antoine Griezmann and Alexander Sørloth too much space. He was also ineffective going forward, failing to deliver quality crosses or contribute meaningfully to Barcelona's build-up play.
2. Wojciech Szczęsny
The experienced goalkeeper had a night to forget, conceding four goals and looking shaky under pressure. Although he made some good saves, he failed to command his area effectively. Szczęsny’s inability to organize his defense and stop crucial shots, especially Marcos Llorente's strike, left Barcelona exposed.
3. Ferran Torres
Torres was largely ineffective before being substituted in the 68th minute. Despite having some opportunities, his decision-making was poor, and he lacked the cutting edge in the final third. His weak shot in the 12th minute, which was easily saved by Juan Musso, summed up his performance.
4. Dani Olmo
Despite showing glimpses of creativity, Olmo was not at his best. He struggled to influence the game in midfield and was often dispossessed. His finishing was also poor, as seen in the 45th minute when he produced a tame shot that was easily saved.
