A Minute To Run Mad

Episode 2

The motor came to a halt after covering some distance, far from where the touts were. The man then instructed his security guard to bring Alabi out of the trunk, which he did.

Alabi was shivering, blood covered his mouth. He tried to run, but the security man's grip was far stronger than his own.

The man rolled down the window to speak with Alabi, who appeared baffled and in shock at the entire situation.

"Alabi the great man!!" the man said, catching Alabi's attention.

The only person who ever called him that was his primary school best friend, Dayo.

"You're surprised, right? I'm Dayo, your old primary school friend. Do you still remember me?" he asked, but Alabi couldn't utter a word.

He was stunned, completely overwhelmed. The pain he had suffered at the hands of the touts suddenly disappeared, replaced by an even greater one—shock.

The first thought that crossed his mind was, Dayo is rich!

"Please, come inside. Let's have a tête-à-tête for a few minutes," Dayo said, and the security guard led Alabi to the other side of the car, helping him inside. Meanwhile, the security guard and the driver stood a short distance away.

"Alabi the great man! It's been a while," Dayo said, smiling warmly.

"Dayo! I still can't believe my eyes. So you're rich now?" Alabi said, the sadness evident on his face, despite his attempt to hide it.

"Abi ooo! It’s by God's grace! How have you been?"

"Dayo, you’re looking at me and still asking how I’m doing? Just look at me! Do I look like someone who is okay? I’m suffering! My mum is dying, and I need money, but there’s none. Please, show me the way, abeg! There’s no job I wouldn’t do right now. I’m ready to do anything to get this money for my mother!" Alabi said, desperation dripping from his voice.

"Hmmm... Alabi, you're a very good friend of mine. I can’t see you like this and not help you. But since you've said with your own mouth that you're willing to do anything to get money... then there's a solution," Dayo said, leaving his words hanging.

Alabi felt a wave of relief wash over him. Finally, there was a solution to all his problems! No more begging, no more poverty—his suffering had come to an end. But what exactly was the solution that Dayo was talking about?
