đ OIL MONEY â¨ī¸ â A NIGERIAN STORY â Šī¸ SHINA SCRIPTS đĨ đĸ #EPISODE 1ī¸âŖ3ī¸âŖ đĸ đ FARIDA đ The doctors wheel her to the theatre, properly clothed to perform the surgery. From Tobi's body language, I could see he is tense. What I really wish for is success after the surgery is performed. His tie is already loosened and I could see perspiration. "Hey." I walk to where he is sat and take a seat beside him. He does not respond to me but I understand his plight. It takes over 5 hours before the surgery is completed. We are at her ward now. Thankfully, the surgery was a success. It's now for her body to recover on its own. We are glad she is alive. The doctor says she would recover, most likely. That same evening, I went to my house to pack up my bags. Tamara and Bukky were shocked when I told them I would be leaving for a while, considering the fact that they had not seen me last night and there was no time to discuss this morning. Everything has just been happening so fast. "Take care of yourself o. Don't do anything naughty." Tamara winks her eyes at me, having a playful expression. "Get out of here." My attempt to smack her on her leg fails as she dodges my hand by an inch. "Sha, be careful. He is a fine man and need I remind you that he also happens to be your boss." Bukky's serious sides are kicking in. "Yes, mummy." Nothing can happen. I know we have not even established any sort of friendship, talk more any other thing happening. "Should we see you off?" "Nah. It's okay. Thank you." After packing fully, my things are placed in the car and I head to my direction, of course with directive from the map because I have not even the slightest idea, how to get to his house. Upon arriving at his house, the gatekeeper opens the gate as though my presence has been in anticipation. "Good evening, ma." He quickly rushes to me the moment I am well parked and the gate has been closed. "Good evening. Is your oga at home?" I ask him. 'Yes, ma. He dey inside." He goes ahead to collect the bag in my hand and I say a thank you in gratitude. I proceed to pick up my box from the car booth and he immediately rushes to me, wanting to also help me with it but I refuse. I can carry my bag myself. "Ah, madam. Abeg, make I carry am o." He insists. "No, don't worry." "Let him help you with the bag." I hear Tobi's voice behind me. I could also hear the undertone mockery in his voice. "Set awon feminists." He adds and my face turns into a frown. I choose to ignore it. This is the second time he is doing this. If I say anything, he'll just make me look stupid. So, there's no point. "Good evening." My face is expressionless as I speak. Honestly, I am tired and just need a nice warm bath before resting. "Evening, Farida. Please, come in." He states. The house actually does look nice and there are some flowers, sitting beautifully around different segments of the compound. Taking in a deep breath, my nostrils are hit with the sweet smell the atmosphere exudes. We are just few steps into the house when I feel a tap on my leg. Lo and behold, Seyi is behind me, smiling mischievously. "Seyi." Tobi calls out. He does not know that she is right behind us. She places her index finger across her closed lips in an attempt to keep me quiet and not spill anything. My tiredness is forgotten as I'm holding myself and trying to control the serious outburst cooking up in my stomach. "Seyi, come out. Your best friend is here." His tone sounds sarcastic when he says that. The little one behind us quietly creeps to him and frowns her face before punching him just behind his knee. "Ouch!" He turns around swiftly, only to be met by Seyi's goofy face. I tried. I really did but, my hold failed. I just could not hold the spill of laughter that erupted off my throat, filling the living room. I don't know when I fall to the floor, still laughing. By the time it decides to dissolve, I am met with two eyes, one curious, the other, simply smirking. Why is he smirking? "Now that you are done laughing, let me show you to your room." He states and I just nod, standing up to follow him. He leads us to the room I would be occupying. My bags are already in the room. I yawn, really hungry. "You look hungry. You could warm up something from the fridge or if you want you could cook something." "Cook? Nah. I'm not a fan." I state. This one that I did not see any sign of a help, hope he is not getting ideas in his head that I'll be the one to fill in for that. I never fail to voice out my dislike for cooking. "Alright." He places his hands in his pocket, raising his leaned body from the door while preparing to take his leave. "Let me know when you're ready to eat. I'll show you the kitchen." He says behind him. đđđđđ That night, I found it difficult to sleep. I kept staring at the ceiling as I finally give up on trying to sleep. Tossing and turning didn't help either. Suddenly, thirst kicks in. I cover my nightie which comprises of shorts and a camisole, using the night robe. My feet take me outside my room, all the way to the kitchen. The light is off but I still can make my way as I have the light from my phone illuminating the path on which I walked. Rinsing a tumbler which I picked from the rack, I head to the water dispenser to fetch some water. "Who is that?" A voice says from behind me and the light immediately comes on. "Hello." I greet Tobi whose gaze travels from the top to the bottom of my form. Is this man checking me out or silently insulting me in his head? "Hi." He says when his eyes finally meet mine, an unreadable expression on them. "I couldn't sleep." I state. "Yeah. Same here." His lips form into a sad smile. "It's 1am. You want to talk?" He asks, eyebrows raised. "Alright." "Wait, let me get something. Just wait for me in the sitting room." I nod my head and make my way there. Soon enough, he returns with two tumblers in one hand and a pack of Chivita Berry Blast in the other hand. That is how we gisted and spoke about a lot for hours and when I started yawning, it was almost daybreak; 5:30am. Tobi just watches me with a smile on his face. "You're sleepy." He points out and I roll my eyes. "Yeah. Unfortunately." "Take the day off." He casually states. "On what grounds?" "On the boss's order." He says, still watching me. Who am I to say no? To be honest, I actually need to rest. "Thank you." I say, smiling. I get up to leave but my leg mistakenly hits a stool and the next thing, I find myself on the floor, groaning in pain. Instead of this man to help me, he starts laughing. I just hiss and make an attempt to get up but the pain that shoots through my leg makes me groan again. I finally get up but my butt kisses the floor the next second. It is at this point that the yeye man decides to get off where he is sat and help me. "Shit! Your ankle dislocated." He speaks after having a look at it. "Wait here." He stands up to leave but pauses in his movement, takes a look at me before heading towards the directions of the rooms. He returns with a first aid box in hand and squats beside me, opening it. "May I?" He asks, making a hand gesture to my leg. "Yes, please." He places his hand on my leg and I swear I could feel a weird sensation inside of me. It is certain that he feels the same because he looks up to me at the same time. Our gazes lock for a few seconds before he clears his throat. "This is going to hurt but you need to be strong." He begins twisting the ankle to put it in shape. I groan in pain, trying to keep my emotions in check but failing terribly at it. I try to release my leg but he holds it in place. "What's your favorite color?" He asks. What has that got to do with this? "I don't have." I reply and he chuckles. "Your favorite food?" "Spaghetti in whatever form." I respond and he snaps my ankle. I yelp in pain but he smiles. Weirdo. "I have fixed it." He takes some balm in his hand and gently massages my ankle to my feet. Damn. This feels nice. "Thank you." I state and he just nods, wrapping the spot with a bandage before standing up to carry me. His body freezes for a minute before proceeding to my room. His fragrance hits my nose and I just sigh, taking in the sweet scent. Even with the pain, I could still feel the sleep kicking in. The last thing I remember when he drops me on the bed before sleep finally engulfs me is the statement he makes. "You're always fighting, wanting to be strong to everyone, meanwhile you look so peaceful in your sleep." And then the door closes. By the time I wake up, he has already left for work. Seyi is not in her room when I check. Hearing some sounds from the kitchen, I hurry there to see that she is the one making the sounds. This little lady is trying to prepare pancakes, as per her usual hobby when it comes to the kitchen. God bless the person who taught her to make them. "You could have woken me up." I feel bad for oversleeping and not watching over her. I feel irresponsible. She still needs supervision in the kitchen. "I didn't want to disturb you." She puckers her bottom lips forward. "Your brother didn't drop you at school today?" Yeah, I know she is a special child. "We are on mid-term break." She shines her teeth, excitedly. I remember as a kid, how I always wanted to go school and just chuckle. On days when there's an obstruction to my showing up, I usually cry. I loved going to school as a child, but you see this generation of kids these days, having breaks off school give them so much joy. "Good morning, ma." Someone says behind me. "Good. morning." I hesitate in-between statements. "I am Dorcas, the housekeeper and cook." She introduces herself. "Hi." I state, giving her a once over. She looks older than me, probably age mates with Tabitha, my elder sister. "I just got in. I don't sleep here and come once in two days." She states as if knowing the unasked questions flooding my thoughts. My response is just me nodding my head. Once the pancake is ready, which of course I helped Seyi prepare, the both of us are sat by the pool, eating and sipping some juice. "Aunty Farida, when will mummy become okay?" She asks, slightly wiping her eyes. I wish there was something I could do to wake her up. "Soon, dear. Soon." As I say this, I am scared for promising the young girl something that was beyond my powers. My hopes are that something happens and she becomes better. I gently scoop her in my arms and kiss her on the top of her head before leaning her body against mine. I wrap my arms around her, gently squeezing her reassuringly then my mind travels far away. đđđđđ 2 |
