Bruno Fernandes' captaincy qualities shone through during extra-time ahead of Manchester United's crushing FA Cup exit to Fulham on Sunday. The Red Devils' dismal season went from bad to worse with their latest defeat at Old Trafford after Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee missed in the penalty shoot-out.

Fernandes breathed life into the hosts, as he so often does, with a moment of brilliance to draw level after Calvin Bassey profited from more lapse set-piece defending on the brink of half-time. He also made no mistake during the shoot-out but ultimately couldn't prevent United's FA Cup defence from ending prematurely. Away from his stand-out qualities during matches, new footage has showcased why Roy Keane was wrong to question Fernandes' credentials as club captain.

The 30-year-old stood in the middle of a scattered circle made up of his exhausted team-mates and looked to be offering a passionate yet tired rallying call with the score locked at 1-1.
United's previous six goals had stemmed from Fernandes set-pieces before he produced an unstoppable finish with his weaker foot to continue the chain of contributions.
The Portuguese maestro has comfortably been the most successful signing of the Sir Alex Ferguson era and will likely be the subject of further transfer speculation this summer.

Fernandes extended his contract until 2027 last year but made his desire for United to match his ambitions clear. The club has fallen far below standards again this season.
His habit of providing moments of quality that most of his team-mates aren't capable of made Keane's scathing attack last week all the more staggering.
The ex-United skipper suggested Fernandes was one of many "imposters" playing for the club, questioning his "fight."
Amorim respectfully hit back at Keane following the explosive rant, heaping praise on the United No. 8 while acknowledging he isn't perfect.
"I heard about that. I have a different opinion. Bruno is really important for us in the club, especially for me. He's playing well in a difficult context. He always wants the responsibility," Amorim responded.
"I know sometimes he does things as a captain with his arms and criticising the team-mates. Most of all it's a lot of frustration for this year, the last year and the others.
"He wants to win, and sometimes it's really hard to deal with that frustration. Everybody has an opinion. Roy Keane has big standards from him in his time, it is normal to have an opinion.
"I have an opposite opinion. I think my opinion is more important than Roy Keane's because I am the coach, and I think he [Fernandes] is doing things quite well."
