πŸ“œ FARIDA πŸ“œ

For a moment, we both stare at each other, making me uncomfortable before I quickly clear my throat and tear my gaze away from his.

"Sorry." We both voice out at the same time. Awkward.

The space in this walkway was big enough for the both of us to walk freely and that's why it is still a surprise that we had to bump into each other. That's quite strange, I must say. Talk about consistent wrong timing.

"Uhm There's a message from the hospital. I was just headed for your office." I state and he raises an eyebrow.

"Oh. Really? Alright, let's go." He does a 360, leading the way. As we continue walking, I decide to speak.

"He said he has news. The doctor, I mean." It's been three weeks and five days since the surgery was conducted. No improvements yet. And yeah, I have been at his place for almost a month now.

"Really?" He asks and I nod.

"Where is your phone? He said he's been tying to reach you but you've not been picking up." I speak.

"I left it in my office. I just got out of a meeting." We make our way into the said office and he shuts the door. His secretary's expression when we passed by her without having an argument or trying to rip each other's head off since more than anyone she has been a witness of many of our fights.

"He said we should be there as soon as possible." Tobi sighs and rubs his forehead at the same time pacing from one end of the room to the other. I bite my lip and look around until he finally snaps out of his moment.

"I..." I want to speak but he interrupts me.

"Let's go." Tobi reaches for his key and walk out of his office, not bothering to look back. I excuse his behavior because there is so much on his mind. He has been trying to cope. On my own side, Tabitha went ahead to give my contact to my mom so now she's also disturbing me. It seems like she gets a new number anytime I blacklist her.

"Ah, welcome." The Doctor greets when he sees us.

"Good morning, Doctor. Any news?" Tobi says, straight to the end.

"Please, sit. In fact, there is good news." He says, a smile dancing on his lips. Tobi visibly sighs and I smile, hopeful that the good news is a huge step compared to our knowledge of her health status.

"She's responding to treatment now. Good news is she is awake and healing excellently." Thank God. We sigh in relief. We were beginning to lose hope as almost a month after, she still had not gained consciousness. The heart monitor had not yet flatlined and that was the only hope we had. Now, that he says she has woken up, we would need to see her.

"Can we see her?" Tobi says, voicing out the exact thoughts in my head.

"Yes." We finally get to see her.

"Tobi. Farida." She slurs, having a small smile on her lips. She coughs and tries to sit up. Tobi walks briskly to her to help support her body. Her hand reaches out for him and he smiles.

"How are you both?" She asks.

"I'm supposed to ask you that question."

We have kind of been staying off each other's paths since the incident that happened 4 nights ago. So, when we got back to the office, we go back to not talking. Earlier, I had to speak because of the Doctor's call. My mind wanders back to what had happened.

πŸ“œ Flashback πŸ“œ

πŸ”ΈTobi was not at home yet and that was none of Farida's business. Seyi was in her room and Farida just needed to get an apple from the fridge. After picking it up, she turns to leave, only to hit someone. Obviously, Tobi. When did he get in? His hand snakes around her waist to hold her in place.

Their eyes meet and she really doesn't know about other times but this instant, she could feel the tension between them.

"Farida." He says, his voice exuding a breath that fans her face. Her frame felt so perfect in his hands. It's scary and troubling at the same time, the compromising position they are in.

"Yeah." That's the only thing her brain could process for her lips to speak out. This whole situation was confusing to them. The atmosphere was tense.

In the brightly lit room, his face was so close to hers that she could smell the nice fragrance of his perfume. In all honesty, none of them had expected this moment. Her heart beat faster and faster when his face leans more into hers. She knew he was trying to kiss her and so she waited. Tobi looked at her face for any sign of withdrawal. The urge to stop it was not even a thought that seemed to register in her head. For some reason, Farida wanted to explore what it felt like. And so, when he leaned in to capture her lips in his, she lets out a sigh of relief.

Tobi could still not point out what made him kiss her but the moment their lips met and their tongues danced, he knew this was the dangerous path he had warned himself against threading.

As though all sense of reasoning that vanished had returned, they quickly retract from the kiss, panting as they lock eyes. Without saying a word, Farida walks off, leaving a dumbfounded Tobi behind.πŸ”Έ

After work, I quickly sneak out to pick up my favorite little lady from work. On our way to the house, we make a stop at Coldstone to pick up the ice-cream I owe her. Well, the back story is that we had a bet and I lost. The little lady is all smiles as she tells the attendant the various flavors she wants. For someone little, she is very smart. It's better I don't even divulge what she outsmarted me at.

"Thank you, Aunty Farida." She giggles, attempting to start having it as we walk.

"Nah. Seyi, in the car." I make an eye gesture to her hand and she immediately understands.

"So, there's something you need to know." I state when she's securely belted.

"Mummy has woken up." She jumps in her seat, elated.

"Can I go see her now?" She asks and I nod.

"Alright. Let's go." I am really tired and would have loved to do this tomorrow instead but placing myself in her shoes, I try to understand her wanting to see her mom who has not been awake for a very long time. Plus, I don't want the cause for her ruined mood if I say no.

"Thank you." She smiles, now having her ice-cream.

"You did not even invite me to join you." I tease.

"Aunty Farida!" She exclaims, giggling softly.

"Oya, come and join me." She says, laughing.

"Thanks, sweetie." I was obviously joking. If I wanted ice-cream, I would have gotten for myself. So. I just laugh and wiggle my eyebrows at her. On our way to the hospital, we make a stop at the Florist to get some flowers. Madam Yeni is a huge fan of those.

By the time we arrive, Seyi is done with her ice-cream. In front of me, she is jumping excitedly, I doubt she is even walking at all. She's literally flying. Obviously joking but that's how it looks from my own view.

Madam Yeni smiles when she sees us in her room, the Nurse was just leaving.

"How is she, Nurse Titi?" I ask her. She is the Nurse assigned to her since she got admitted.

"Recovering remarkably well." She smiles before leaving us to her.

"Farida, Seyi." Madam Yeni says, smiling. She looks better than when we saw her earlier.

"Hello, ma."

"Mummy!" Seyi exclaims, running towards her.

I drop the flower on the table top. It's in a vase so there is no need to worry about balance. She requests for an audience with just Seyi after a while and I excuse them.

πŸ“œ POV πŸ“œ

Madam looks carefully before properly sitting up. She sighs, bringing out her drink from under her pillow.

"I am tired, jare." She states and Seyi laughs. They both understand why the situation is as it is.

"Oya, lock the door and gist me what has happened so far." She says, wiggling her brows and excited for the incoming gist. This whole thing had been orchestrated from the onset and when Yeni's mind goes to it, she smiles about how coincidentally her plans are falling in place. She wanted for them to start being friends at least. She grins at her sheer genius idea and listens to Seyi as she speaks.

On a sunny afternoon, so many thoughts were swimming through Madam Yeni's mind but the one that stood out was how to set her matchmaking plans into action. An idea struck to her head but she knew that in order to successfully implement it, she would need an accomplice.

"Seyi, you like Farida very much, I can see." Madam Yeni says.

"Yes, mummy. She is like a sweet big sister." How good the odds are?

"Do you want that happening in reality?" She asks and Seyi nods.

"Come closer." Seyi scoots closer to her mom and listens to the whispers she makes in her ears.
