*The Way of the Cross: A Young Boy’s Journey to Faith in Zimbabwe*

Tapiwa had always been curious about the large gatherings at the Catholic church in his village. He would often see people walking in a solemn procession, stopping at different points to pray. He never understood why, but something about it felt powerful.

At thirteen, Tapiwa had been raised in a home where faith was not a priority. His parents respected religion but never saw the need to belong to any church. However, his best friend, Tinashe, was a devoted Catholic, and he often invited Tapiwa to church events. One Good Friday, Tinashe persuaded him to join the Way of the Cross.

As they walked, Tapiwa listened to the priest and the congregation narrate the suffering of Jesus Christ. At each station, he saw the emotion in people’s faces—some whispering prayers, others with tears in their eyes. At first, he didn’t understand why they were so moved, but as the procession continued, something stirred in him.

When they reached the Twelfth Station—where Jesus dies on the cross—Tapiwa saw an elderly woman kneel and weep. Her sorrow seemed personal, as if she had lost someone dear. Tinashe’s grandmother, who was beside them, leaned over and whispered, _"He died for you, for me, for all of us."_

For the first time, Tapiwa felt the weight of those words. He imagined Jesus, bruised and bleeding, enduring pain out of love for people He had never met—including a boy in Zimbabwe who had never thought much about Him. A strange warmth filled his heart, and he felt a deep longing to know more.

After the procession, Tapiwa couldn’t shake the feeling. He asked Tinashe endless questions about Jesus, the cross, and what it meant to be Catholic. Tinashe’s family welcomed his curiosity, and soon he began attending catechism classes.

The following year, on Easter Sunday, Tapiwa stood before the congregation, dressed in white, as he was baptized into the Catholic Church. The same cross that once seemed like a mystery had now become the symbol of his new faith.

And so, through the Way of the Cross, a young boy in Zimbabwe found his path to Christ.
