Tapiwa’s baptism was only the beginning of his journey. As he grew in his Catholic faith, he found himself drawn more and more to the meaning behind the Way of the Cross. He wanted others to feel what he had felt—the deep, unshakable love of Christ.
One day, after Sunday Mass, Tapiwa approached Father Michael, the parish priest. “Father, can I help lead the Way of the Cross next Good Friday?” he asked. The priest smiled, seeing the fire of faith in the young boy’s eyes. “Of course, Tapiwa. But leading means understanding. Are you ready for that?”
For the next few months, Tapiwa studied each station with devotion. He read about Jesus’ suffering, reflected on His love, and even fasted on certain days to deepen his spiritual connection. He began to see the Way of the Cross not just as a series of prayers but as a reflection of the struggles people faced every day—poverty, loss, sickness, and rejection.
When Good Friday arrived, Tapiwa stood before the congregation, now a confident and passionate young leader. As he carried the wooden cross at the front of the procession, he spoke from the depths of his heart.
“Jesus fell three times, but He got back up. How many times do we fall in life? How many times do we feel hopeless? Yet Jesus shows us that we must rise again.”
The words touched many, especially an older man named Mr. Chari, who had not been to church in years. Seeing a young boy speak with such faith moved him deeply. Later, he told Tapiwa, “Your words made me realize I need to return to God.”
That day, Tapiwa understood that his journey wasn’t just about his own faith—it was about sharing it. He made it his mission to bring more young people into the Church, just as Tinashe had done for him.
And so, the boy who was once an outsider became a guide, leading others to the foot of the cross, where love and salvation awaited them all.
