Episode 2: Echoes of the Past The cold night breeze rustled through the palm trees as Obinna stood frozen under the Udala tree, staring into Nkem’s piercing eyes. The old man’s words echoed in his mind— "There is a secret buried beneath this village, and you are the only one who can uncover it."
Obinna swallowed hard. He had spent years trying to outrun his father’s shadow, and now it seemed his fate was tied to it.
Nkem stepped closer, his staff tapping softly against the earth. “Your father did not vanish, Obinna. He was taken.”
“Taken?” Obinna’s voice was barely above a whisper.
The old man nodded solemnly. “By the gods.”
A chill ran down Obinna’s spine. The villagers had always said his father was cursed, but taken by the gods? That was something else entirely.
Nkem sighed. “Come to my hut at dawn. There is much you must know.” Without another word, he disappeared into the darkness, leaving Obinna with more questions than answers.
The next morning, Obinna made his way to Nkem’s hut, his heart pounding with every step. He knew that whatever truth awaited him would change everything.
Inside the dimly lit hut, Nkem sat before a small fire, grinding herbs with a stone. “Sit,” he said without looking up.
Obinna obeyed, his eyes scanning the strange symbols drawn on the walls. “Tell me the truth,” he demanded.
Nkem exhaled deeply. “Your father was part of an ancient brotherhood—The Keepers of Umuoko. They were the guardians of a powerful relic, hidden beneath this village for centuries. But one night, your father discovered a betrayal within their ranks. Before he could expose it, he was taken.”
Obinna clenched his fists. “Who betrayed him?”
Nkem looked at him, his expression unreadable. “Someone you know. Someone powerful.”
A cold dread filled Obinna’s chest. If the past had been buried, then he would be the one to dig it up.
Even if it meant uncovering a truth that could shatter everything.
