The Door That Knocks Back

It started with a knock at 3:12 a.m. — three slow, deliberate knocks.

I didn’t answer.

The next night, it happened again. Same time. Same rhythm.

By the third night, I was waiting for it. When the knocks came, I knocked back.

That’s when I heard it.

A quiet, muffled voice from the other side of the door:

"Finally."

The door handle started to turn.
