The Reflection That Wasn’t Me

I glanced at the mirror this morning. My reflection blinked a second too late.

I froze.

Slowly, it tilted its head — but I didn’t.

It smiled. I didn’t.

Then it raised a finger to its lips and whispered:

"Don’t tell them I got out."

I stumbled back, heart hammering, but the reflection stayed where it was, watching me. I ran out of the room, slamming the door behind me.

But when I passed the hallway mirror, it wasn’t me staring back.

It was already waiting.
