The Stranger in My Photos 14

I didn’t remember falling asleep. But when I woke up, my phone was already in my hand. The screen was on — another photo waiting for me.

It wasn’t the field this time. It was my front door.

The figure was standing there, inches away from the peephole. Its head still tilted unnaturally, like its neck was broken.

My heart pounded in my throat. I didn’t want to look. I didn’t want to check the door.

But I heard it.

A slow, deliberate knock.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

The photo on my phone refreshed. Same figure — but now its hand was raised, knuckles against the door.

The knocking stopped. My phone buzzed again. Another message.

"You should’ve answered sooner."

The doorknob started to turn.

And from the other side, I heard my own voice whisper:

"Let me in."
