Immediate-past Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has dismissed a viral video report alleging that he criticized President Bola Tinubu over the suspension of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state House of Assembly.

A viral video surfaced on Thursday showing Shaibu sitting next to an unidentified man dressed in white, where he seemingly dismissed Tinubu’s suspension of Fubara as unconstitutional, following the president’s declaration of emergency rule in the oil-rich state.

However, in a press statement issued by his media team on Wednesday, Shaibu described the report as “false, misleading, and a product of mischief,” labeling it a desperate attempt by political detractors to drag him into non-existent controversies.

“We categorically state that at no time did His Excellency grant any interview, make any statement, or participate in any discussion concerning the current political developments in Rivers State,” the statement said, dismissing the video as “doctored.”

The former deputy governor, known for his forthrightness on national issues, emphasized that he only expresses his views through “reputable television stations, established newspapers, and other credible media platforms.” He dismissed the viral report as a fabricated narrative pushed by “desperate bloggers seeking to revive their failing careers.”

Shaibu further alleged that certain political figures, including immediate-past Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and former Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Osarodion Ogie, have been orchestrating a smear campaign against him.

He accused them of stalking his activities since his exit from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and resorting to digital propaganda after failing to infiltrate his political and personal affairs.

“These same elements are now using technology, including AI, to doctor videos and manufacture falsehoods to tarnish his image or sell their agenda,” the statement added.

Refuting claims of any rift with the presidency, Shaibu reiterated his respect for President Tinubu and commended his efforts in ensuring national stability.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu holds President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the highest regard and has deep respect for his leadership,” the statement read.

“His Excellency believes that the President has, so far, been taking necessary steps within the limits of the law to protect the stability and unity of the federation.

“As a democrat and firm believer in constitutional governance, Shaibu remains committed to the rule of law and the principles of justice.”

Shaibu, therefore, urged the public to disregard the “concocted report”, dismissing it as a “figment of the imagination of those behind it.”

The former deputy governor reiterated that he remain focused and declared that he would not be distracted by “desperate politicians who have lost relevance.”
