Thomas Tuchel has been advised to make Chelsea star Cole Palmer the central figure in his revamped England squad as reported by Metro.
Tuchel, who took over from Gareth Southgate in January after a stint with Bayern Munich, has already been assessing Premier League talent ahead of the March international break.
With the Three Lions heading into next year’s World Cup, former England international Chris Waddle has urged Tuchel to focus on Palmer as a key player for England’s future.
Palmer, who impressed at Chelsea last season, has continued to shine in the current campaign, with 13 goals and six assists in just 20 appearances.
Despite playing limited minutes at Euro 2024, Palmer’s form has elevated him to one of England’s brightest prospects.
Waddle said, "He’s a great creative player. People forget the creative part of the game is the hardest part of football.
He’s got so much ability, and he scores goals." Waddle emphasized that Tuchel should not overlook Palmer when shaping his squad. “If you don’t build a team around Cole Palmer, that would be daft,” he added.
While players like Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden often occupied the number ten role under Southgate, Waddle believes Palmer has earned the right to be considered first choice in that position.
“England are blessed in midfield, but Palmer sees a pass more than anyone else. He’s the best way forward if we want to win a tournament,” Waddle concluded.
With his performances at Chelsea, Palmer has firmly established himself as one of the most exciting talents in English football.
