The Gym Disaster

Mark decided it was finally time to get in shape, so he signed up for a gym membership. On his first day, he was determined to impress. He hopped on the treadmill, cranked up the speed, and started jogging like a pro.

Everything was going great—until he got a little too confident.

He decided to push the speed even higher. That’s when disaster struck. His foot missed a step, and before he knew it, he was flying backward like a cartoon character.

He landed flat on the floor with the treadmill still running at full speed. His water bottle hit someone in the face. His towel got sucked under the belt.

And worst of all? The cute trainer he was trying to impress ran over and asked, “Are you okay?” while trying not to laugh.

Mark quit the gym that day.

Moral of the story: Confidence is great, but so is balance.

General / Grandma Voice Assistant by Nobody    4 weeks ago

Grandma’s Voice Assistant
My grandma recently got a smart speaker for her house, and let’s just say… technology isn’t her best friend.
One day, I walked in and saw her yelling at it:
Grandma: "Alexa! Play my favorite song!"
Alexa: "I'm sorry, I didn't understand that."
Grandma: "PLAY. MY. FAVORITE. SONG!"
Alexa: "Could you repeat that?"
Grandma: "YOU STUPID MACHINE, PLAY THE ONE I LIKE!"
At this point, I stepped in to help. "Grandma, you have to tell Alexa the name of the song."
She looked at me, completely serious, and said: "I don't know the name! I just know it's the one I like!"
She then turned back to Alexa and muttered, "Useless toaster."
Moral of the story: Technology is only as smart as its user.

Optical illusions trick the brain into misinterpreting visual information, leading to perceptions that differ from reality, often due to the brain's attempts to make sense of incomplete or ambiguous data.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
Brain's Role:
The brain doesn't just passively receive visual information; it actively interprets and processes it, making assumptions and filling in gaps based on context, past experiences, and learned patterns.
Misinterpretation of Signals:
Optical illusions exploit the brain's visual system by presenting stimuli that cause misinterpretations of signals from the eyes, leading to perceived distortions or errors in judgment.

Examples of Illusions:
Physiological Illusions: Occur when the visual system is overstimulated or confused by light, movement, shapes, colors, or contrast, causing the brain to perceive motion or patterns that aren't actually there.
Cognitive Illusions: Result from the brain's assumptions and expectations about the world, leading to misinterpretations of visual information, like the Necker cube where the cube's orientation appears to flip.
Literal Illusions:Occur when the brain interprets a two-dimensional image as three-dimensional, or when it makes assumptions based on patterns or context, leading to a misinterpretation of what is actually present.

How Illusions Work:
Context and Assumptions: The brain uses contextual cues, such as shadows, perspective, and color, to interpret what it sees, and these cues can be manipulated to create illusions.
Lateral Inhibition:Neurons in the retina can compete with each other, and the winning neurons influence the message the brain receives, leading to the perception of illusory effects like the Hermann grid illusion.
Saccades: Small, almost imperceptible eye movements (saccades) can cause us to perceive motion when there is none.
Filling in Gaps: The brain often fills in missing information or creates an image that isn't even there, leading to illusions.

Examples of Brain "Tricks":
Hermann Grid Illusion: Causes the perception of dark spots at the intersections of a grid, even though there are none.
Muller-Lyer Illusion: Lines with inward-facing arrowheads appear shorter than lines with outward-facing arrowheads, even though they are the same length.
Ponzo Illusion: Parallel lines that appear to converge in the distance look further apart than parallel lines that are actually closer.

Benefits of Studying Illusions:
Studying optical illusions helps us understand how the brain and perceptual system function, and how our perceptions are shaped by both visual input and internal processes.

Amorim gave a telling insight into his troubled reign at Old Trafford when asked what is the most common thing Red Devils supporters say when they meet him.

The Portuguese almost laughed at himself and revealed: “They say one thing that is really strange for me: ‘You are doing a good job.’
“It is so hard to understand sometimes. It’s really important for me.”

Amorim appreciates the support of the United faithful so much because he knows that his four months in the job cannot be considered a success at all.
United go into the home clash with Arsenal marooned in the bottom half of the Premier League table after just six victories — and eight defeats — in 18 top-flight matches on his watch.
Amorim, 40, openly admits to making mistakes — particularly in his handling of relationships with staff outside the dressing room.
He told TNT Sports: “When you are a player you just focus on you but when you are a manager you have to focus on a lot of people, not just the players but all the staff.

“All the staff are paying attention to you so you have to pay attention to that, and that is something that I didn’t do very well in the beginning here in Manchester because I was focused on the games.
“At the moment I am starting to get a really good connection with all the staff and the players.”
Well, all the staff that are still there after owners Ineos confirmed 200 more redundancies in the latest round of savage cost-cutting.
Amorim won respect from some non-football staff for saying that it was ultimately United’s struggles on the pitch that were responsible for people losing their jobs.
Ruben Amorim says Man Utd must make more of opportunities after draw with Real Sociedad
But some inside the dressing room were said to be less impressed about being called out by the new boss and the shadow of United’s incredible success under Sir Alex Ferguson hangs over Amorim — just like all those who have tried to follow in the legend’s footsteps.
Amorim revealed Fergie has been in touch, saying: “He already called me to give me some advice.”
The United boss also said he would consider altering his pre-match routine of handing a water bottle to his assistant in a bid to inspire a change in fortune.
Amorim added: “This is the time to change things, when you are not winning too much.”

Friends of Amorim sometimes feel that he offers too much of himself in interviews and press conferences.
And his answers to a quick-fire set of questions provided more revelations than you would normally expect.
The biggest message that came through was how grateful Amorim is for the fans continuing to believe in him when it seems as though he is doubting himself.
He said: “The way they support us, even when you are losing, in the bad moments, that is the most special thing.”
Amorim was a champion of Portugal both as a player at Benfica and as a coach with their Lisbon rivals, Sporting.
And he longs for the day when United fans can sing his favourite chant, their version of a John Denver classic, in celebration of winning their first Premier League crown since Fergie left in 2013.
Amorim said: “[Take Me Home,] Country Roads that they adapt is perfect. I really dream to win the title and listen to that song at Old Trafford.”

What lucrative business someone start

Martin Odegaard insists Arsenal can still haul back Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title.
Liverpool opened up a 16-point lead at the summit of English football on Saturday after coming from behind to beat Southampton at Anfield.
Arsenal have two games in hand over Arne Slot’s side and head to Old Trafford on Sunday to take on Manchester United.
The Gunners saw their title aspirations severely dented by a shock home defeat to West Ham United before a goalless draw away to Nottingham Forest.
Mikel Arteta’s side failed to score in both those games but put seven past PSV Eindhoven in a rampant performance in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Arsenal finished runners up last season in a battle with Manchester City that went right down to the final day with six wins on the trot not enough to chase down Pep Guardiola’s side.

But Odegaard believes that sort of form shows the gap can be closed if Liverpool do slip up.

‘We’ll fight until the end,’ Odegaard said.
‘That’s the mindset of everyone. We’ve been fighting three years in a row for the title and you go a couple of years back then we were leading with a lot of points and then we finished second.
‘It shows that everything is possible.
‘We’ve put ourselves in a difficult position at the moment but we have to keep going.
‘Hopefully we can – like last year – hit the top form towards the end and then we’ll see where that takes us in the league and also in the Champions League.’

21 points separate United and Arsenal ahead of kick-off with Ruben Amorim’s destined for bottom-half obscurity in the league in what has been another rotten season at Old Trafford.
Amid some woeful results under the Portuguese, United have shown huge resolve away to Manchester City and Liverpool, also knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup at the Emirates.
While United have lost five of their last seven at home in the Premier League, Odegaard is wary of them striking again.
‘They’re not where they want to be in the table and it’s a big club which has struggled a little bit but we know the quality they have when they’re really on it and they have a lot of good individual players that we have to be ready for.
‘But we go there to win and, yeah, we’re Arsenal and we’re not scared. We will go there to win the game.’
