The Ekiti State Forestry Commission, under the leadership of Executive Secretary Otunba Adekunle Sunday David, hosted an impressive celebration for the International Day of Forests 2025. The event, themed "Forests and Food," took place at the Commission's office in Ado-Ekiti and was attended by notable dignitaries and representatives from various sectors. In her address, Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi, the Head of Service representing the Ekiti State Governor, expressed her gratitude for being part of this significant occasion. She acknowledged the global importance of forests, emphasizing their crucial role in sustaining life on Earth and their myriad benefits, including biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation. "The theme 'Forests and Food' highlights the interconnectedness of our ecosystems and the essential relationship between forests, food security, and sustainable development," she stated. Olomojobi underscored that forests are vital not only for timber and other resources but also for supporting livelihoods and contributing to food and water security for millions. Among the attendees were Rt. Hon. Taiwo Franklin Olatunbosun, Commissioner for Information, and Mr. Ojo Babatope, Permanent Secretary of Agriculture and Food Security. Hon. Oladele Ogunsakin, Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, also addressed the gathering, commending the state's efforts in sustainable forestry practices. He praised Governor Biodun Oyebanji's six-pillar agenda aimed at transforming Ekiti State and ensuring a safe and healthy environment for its citizens. "The protection of our forests is paramount," Ogunsakin remarked. "Together, we must reaffirm our commitment to sustainable forest management and actively participate in afforestation and environmental conservation." Several non-governmental organizations advocating for restoration and sustainable forest management, including GADEF and TGED, also attended the event, reinforcing the call for collective action in safeguarding forest resources. In his closing remarks, Otunba Adekunle Sunday David expressed appreciation for the governor's unwavering support towards the Commission's initiatives. He highlighted the importance of forests as essential resources for both the environment and revenue generation for the state. The Executive Secretary announced that the Commission would provide 100 seedlings to each participating school as part of an awareness campaign aimed at instilling the value of forestry in younger generations. David lamented the adverse effects of overlogging and the resultant environmental degradation in areas like Oke-Ako in Ikole-Ekiti. He underscored the need for collaborative efforts to address the challenges of deforestation and its impact on local communities. As part of the celebration, the Governor presented trees to invited secondary schools, including Christ School, Ado Muslim College, St. Augustine Oye-Ekiti, and SUBEB Nursery and Primary School, Ado-Ekiti, fostering a spirit of environmental stewardship among the youth. The event underscored the critical role of forests in a sustainable future and emphasized the collective responsibility of individuals, communities, and government to protect and restore these invaluable resources. "Let's work together to keep Ekiti working, embracing the theme of the day and taking actionable steps to promote sustainable land use practices," Olomojobi concluded, encouraging participants to celebrate and protect the forests for generations to come. https://beyondnewsng.com/ekiti-govt-celebrates-international-forest-day-pledges-sustainable-environmental-practices/ 3 2 ![]() |

Politics / Reverse Fubaraâs Suspension Now, Northern Elders Tell Tinubu

The Northern Elders Forum has expressed displeasure over the recent political development in Rivers state which led to the suspension of Govenor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the House of Assembly by President Bola Tinubu. In a statement, Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere, spokesperson of NEF, called on the President to immediately reinstate the governor and his deputy. NEF observed that even though the President is empowered under Section 305 of the Nigerian Constitution 1999 (as amended) to declare a state of emergency on the Federation or any part of it, the situation in Rivers did not warrant a state of emergency. âThe president may by instrument published in the official Gazette of the Government of the Federation issue a proclamation of a state of emergency in the Federation or any part thereof. âHowever, the president can only do so, if and only if, any the conditions stated in subsection 3 of Section 305 actually occurs which includes war, imminent invasion, breakdown of public order, clear and present danger, disaster or natural calamity, other public danger, or a request from the Governor of the State.â âIt is a public knowledge and indisputable fact that none of these conditions actually happened in Rivers State. Except perhaps for personal vendetta in alliance with the Presidentâs serving Federal Minister of the FCT and the immediate past Governor of Rivers State who has been in personal conflict with the suspended Governor for selfish interests rather than public good,â NEF said. âThe Federal government and the President in particular must find a viable and permanent solution to the political crisis in Rivers State, and also immediately lift the suspension of the Governor, Deputy Governor and State Assembly to restore the spirit of democracy, justice and public order,â The Forum also advised the Federal government not to allow the escalation of political disputes in some other states such as Kano, where at the moment there exists a standoff and tussle in the traditional institution of the Kano Emirate. https://dailytrust.com/reverse-fubaras-suspension-now-norther-elders-tell-tinubu/ 3 2 ![]() |

What is happening with Ajaokuta Steel and the Osogbo Steel Rolling Mills? Instead of starting new projects, it would be good to first bring the moribund ones back to live. 4 3 |

The Federal Ministry of Steel Development has unveiled an ambitious plan to increase Nigeriaâs steel production capacity to 10 million metric tonnes per year, as part of efforts to drive industrial growth and reduce reliance on imports. The Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, disclosed this initiative during his visit to the National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency (NSRMEA) in Kaduna. Prince Audu emphasized that Nigeria spends approximately $4 billion annually on steel imports, underscoring the urgent need for import substitution to ease pressure on the countryâs foreign exchange reserves. âFor Nigeria to produce steel in the large quantities we desire, it is crucial that the exploration arm of the industry operates at full capacity,â he stated. He described the NSRMEA as a strategic institution in the federal governmentâs broader vision of expanding Nigeriaâs economy to $1 trillion by 2030. Key Initiatives for Steel Sector Growth As part of the revitalization efforts, the Ministry plans to host Nigeriaâs inaugural Steel Summit, where industry stakeholders will collaborate to develop a comprehensive roadmap for the sectorâs growth. Prince Audu also reiterated President Bola Tinubuâs commitment to rehabilitating the Ajaokuta Steel Company, integrating military hardware production into its operations as part of a larger strategy to establish a military-industrial complex in Nigeria. He highlighted ongoing collaborations with the Ministry of Defence and the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) to manufacture military hardware locally. A draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has already been shared with DICON and is awaiting presidential approval. Additionally, the Minister noted the progress of the Metallurgical Industry Bill, which has passed its second reading in the House of Representatives. âOnce passed and signed into law, the bill will provide a regulatory framework for private and corporate steel players, ensuring proper governance and sector development,â he explained. Attracting Foreign Investment in Steel Production Prince Audu further outlined efforts to attract foreign direct investment into the steel sector. He referenced President Tinubuâs visit to New Delhi in September 2023, where an agreement was reached to produce 5 million metric tonnes of steel in Nigeria. Moreover, a Chinese firm, Galaxy, has committed to investing $300 million in a steel plant in Ogun State, signaling growing investor confidence in Nigeriaâs steel industry. Despite challenges that have hindered the sector for over 45 years, the Minister expressed confidence that ongoing reforms will revive the industry and position Nigeria as a key player in global steel production. Romance / Love đ Is A Natural Thing That God Himself Has Put Inside Humans

I know many of you love my stories and how they make you feel, inspiring you to be stronger, rise above and feel empowered. Well, this story-these stories- aren't just made up tales and a fancy make believe story. No, the things I share- I've lived. At some point in my life, I went through what you read. Some good, some bad, all authentic. Some of you may roll your eyes, expecting a sappy love story. And youâd be right, this is part of my love story. Itâs full of all the usual elements of boy meets girl, they fall in love and live happily ever after. Except in this story, one of them makes terrible choices and the love story appears to be over⊠Only itâs not. You see, thereâs something very powerful about pure and passionate love. It may be many things- hopeless, romantic, beautiful, even.. But it doesnât fail. If we give up, let it go or stop caring about our love, well, thatâs on us. But I didnât. I made every mistake I could have made, hurt hearts and destroyed trust.. But I made a choice to fight for my love story. The same option that each one of us has at some point in our lives. I swallowed my pride, I put aside my ego and I chose to do whatever it took to find a way through the heartache. Donât tell me youâre too old, too tired, too damaged for love- Iâm all those things-just like you say you are- and yet, I wasnât going to let the most amazing person I had ever met slip through my fingers. The chance to love someone comes along so very rarely in this life, why would you ever walk away from something so beautiful? And donât tell me itâs because of whatever reason youâve told yourself. Choose love. Fight for it. Believe in it. Do whatever it takes to make your love story stay alive. The chance to connect with another human being on a level that transcends normal human emotion? Thatâs a beautiful thing and itâs worth whatever you have to pour into it. Donât sell yourself short, decide to quit or tell yourself that youâre not enough. Truthfully, I probably didnât deserve another chance at my love story. But thatâs just the thing about love. It will change your life, drive you to be better and bring you a joy unlike any otherâŠand it also forgives. So, yeah, this is my story. Itâs one of true love, tragic mistakes and a bitter pain. But itâs also a tale of two beautiful hearts that never stopped believing in love, each other and their future. So please, no more excuses about why you canât find or donât have love. Love is all around us, but we have to open our eyes, free our hearts and embrace the possibilities. It wonât always be easy or fast, but it will always be worth it. Iâm telling you that youâre worthy of love, you deserve it and your chance will come..sometimes, more than once. But you know what else ? Itâs going to make you step outside your comfort zone, take chances, bare your soul and be vulnerable. And I can promise you, that once youâve done that and felt the immeasurable power of love, it will take your breath away⊠Every time you see the love of your life- and youâll never be the same. So, tell me anything you want - Say youâre not ready, donât want it or whatever you want to tell yourself.. But donât tell me you canât have it, itâs too hard or you donât deserve it⊠Because you do. We all do. The rest is up to you. And as far as my love story, Thank you, MPS, for showing me what a real love story feels like and never giving up on me. Iâll spend the rest of our life together showing you how very much you mean to me. May each and every one of us find our own amazing love story- One day, one chapter and one beautiful heart at a time. |ravenwolf 3 4 ![]() |
